Sicks & Sticks

I have just come out the other side of a 7 day long headache. I'm not talking your average headache, I'm talking head-in-a-vice, cant look at light, can't handle loud noises (or any noises in fact), Fleur-at-her-worst type of headache. Two reluctant days off work and several doctors and antibiotics later I'm on the mend. So much time to lie awake staring at the ceiling gave me plenty of time to think - and one of the many thoughts I gave alot of time to was the realization that I spent 99% of my time doing, thinking and making things for other people. Don't get me wrong, I love that I get to make my entire living from my artwork - it's my dream realised. I just don't have the time to explore many of the ideas that I somehow have a moment to come up with in my own head. I had a craving to get busy with my hands and having seen the Visual Merchandising set up in Alice Euphemia created by Bernadette Francis I was busting to recreate some of her sparkly sticks for my own house. Her installation embodies everything I'm loving at the moment - sparkles, glitter, sequins, and lots of fluro - and was the perfect solution of what to fill the vase my sister gave me for Christmas with. I raided the Smith St (Collingwood) junk stores to top up my supplies, collected some sticks and got to work. A few hours later, the sticks I collected were approved by my cats, and the vase my sister gave me is full of gorgeous colours textures. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon xxx
